About Us

Poplar Farm Kennels 25 years ago, Poplar Farm Kennels took strays from the local Police and held them in an old stable block, the owners at the time also bred Old English Sheepdogs.

Then David bought the place and the stables were put back to horses and the makeshift kennels removed. The years went by and the horses gave way to dogs again, this time it was working Labradors and Curly Coated Retrievers that graced the old stable block and for many years we held a breeders license producing two or three litters a year of working Labradors.

The original pedigree dogs have declined in number and the kennels have been given over to rescue dogs. So the wheel has turned full circle and Poplar Farm Kennels aim to provide a place of safety for dogs that would otherwise be put to sleep .

David, Rachel and our team of volunteers ensure that the dogs are assessed, re-trained, nursed back to full health and finally re-homed. If they cannot find a suitable home then the dog will live out the rest of its days at Poplar Farm. We have a 100% "no kill" policy.

All decisions are made with the dogs best interests taking priority. In general all dogs are vet checked, vaccinated against 8 different diseases, microchipped, neutered and treated for worms, fleas and guiardia. Further details can be found on our Adoption Procedure page.

Caring for these dogs is very demanding, both practically and financially and any help and offers of homes are always welcome. If you are interested in one of our dogs or have questions about anything you see or read on this website, please let us know

We will normally only home dogs within 60 minutes travel time from PFK
