Fionn's Story
Poplar Farm Kennels,
along with all who care about the welfare of dogs, were horrified to
hear and see the photographs of this despicable act. We
have made the decision to change our front page to bring the
situation facing Greyhounds to the attention of as many people as
possible.
Please be aware
that the photographs in the links below are extremely disturbing
GREYHOUND ACTION IRELAND, PRESS
RELEASE
YET
ANOTHER GREYHOUND WITH EARS AND SCALP MUTILATED AND REMOVED
A lady from Templetuhey, Tipperary, Ireland, came home on Saturday
15th October to find a Greyhound with his scalp mutilated and both
his ears removed.

Warning.............Below
are graphic pictures of FIONN!
This appeared to be carried out
by someone using a crude blade as the skin is hacked and infected.
As Greyhounds are tattooed on both ears to identify them for racing
and coursing purposes this practice is becoming all too common in
Ireland and the UK. Many dogs have been found both alive and dead
minus their ears. Fionn, as he has been named, is now in the care
of Tipperary friends of animals SPCA. Fionn was taken to the vets
and below are some pictures of him after treatment
PRESS RELEASE FROM
GREYHOUND ACTION IRELAND
Greyhound Action Ireland
is horrified that an Industry that races dogs for profit and that is
clearly responsible for their demise is allowed continue this
butchery with impunity. Accountability which is being sought as to
ownership of these defenceless animals is not enough to end their
suffering. Only a complete end to the reason for 40,000 deaths in
Ireland and the UK every year is acceptable…an end to Greyhound
Racing.
Flyers with
Fionn’s photo will be distributed at every stadium in
Ireland over the coming weeks. The heading will be -
DO YOU KNOW THIS DOG?
Someone somewhere can identify this dog and we want them to
come forward. If you
recognise this dog please contact us or click on the links

a Waterford man was walking his dog by the river bank. He came
across the bodies of 3 greyhounds, their throats had been cut
and their ears had been removed .The Greyhounds were found in
the river near Dungarvan, Co. Waterford, Ireland. Throats
slashed, ears cut off, the dead and mutilated dogs were
reported to the police, who felt they could not act without
some identification. With the dogs ears gone the tattoos had
been removed.

 | This follows a similar
incident in Kerry a few months ago.
|
 | Similar to the horse
Racing tax exemption the Greyhound exemption must end in an
effort to stop this so called sport. Greyhound Racing is
Irelands HIDDEN BLOOD SPORT.
|
 | We call for a full enquiry
into this case by Bord na gCon (the
Irish Greyhound Board) and the Gardai. Justice might be
able to be pursued in the same way it was in the Rusty case in
the UK, where Rusty, also had his ears cut off, and yet the
perpetrator was still found and punished. See Rusty's story on
www.greyhoundaction.org.uk/greyhound.html |
 | Rusty found mutilated in
Wales and many others found in mass graves in the States and UK
.This nefarious cruelty must stop. The Government must stop
using taxpayers money to support these atrocities. |

IRISH GREYHOUND
BOARD (IGB) STATEMENT CONCERNING REPORTED CASE (17 OCT,
2005) OF MALTREATED GREYHOUND FOUND IN TIPPERARY
The Irish Greyhound Board [IGB] unequivocally
condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the maltreatment
of the recently reported case of the greyhound "Fionn",
currently in the care of Tipperary Friends of Animals SPCA.
This case was put under immediate investigation by the IGB,
which is determined to identify who is responsible for this
atrocity. The IGB is appalled at the magnitude of cruelty
inflicted on this greyhound, and makes urgent appeal to the
public to provide any relevant information in confidence to
the IGB Welfare Manager.
The IGB Welfare Manager has reported this case to An Garda
Siochana and has also sent an IGB Stipendiary Steward to the
premises where the greyhound is being cared for to record
detailed markings and obtain a DNA sample from the
greyhound. (The IGB is currently setting up a process in
conjunction with The Irish Greyhound Stud Book, whereby DNA
will be taken from all brood bitches, which in turn will
allow the parentage, and therefore the identity, of all
greyhounds to be traced.) The DNA sample taken from this
greyhound is currently undergoing a profile analysis in the
U.K.
Where cases of cruelty against greyhounds are investigated
and proven, the full rigours of the IGB statutory sanctions
will be brought to bear on the perpetrators. The IGB Welfare
Manager is seeking the assistance of the Irish Greyhound
Owners and Breeders Association, the greyhound public and
the public at large. This will be further communicated
through the medium of industry specific publications and
other sources.
The IGB appeals to any person who might have relevant
information relating to this specific case to contact in
confidence:
The Welfare Manager,
The Irish Greyhound Board,
104 Henry Street,
Limerick |
