Scoobys Page

Scooby is ex Ashton pound, Dublin. Possibly a Great Dane x Boxer x Labrador x PowerStation, Scooby is a very active boy. Happy to be made a fuss of and will reward you with a kiss ! He does not mix well with small dogs but is OK with dogs around his own size and is not mad keen to share his kennel, so would probably be easiest as the only dog in the household although he is with others here.

Reasonable on a lead, housetrained, good recall, Scooby has very distinctive looks, a great temperament and loads of character. Will make a real loyal pal for someone. Scooby needs to go to a home where there are no young children (coz he would flatten them) and to owners who have had experience of large dogs. He will need to continue his basic training which he enjoys. We feel that Scooby would make an excellent and very different competition or agility dog for an enthusiast as he has lots of energy and is desperate to please.

During the time he has been with us Scooby has shown us what a truly great dog he is, whoever gets to re home him will have a devoted friend for life, he is a dog in a million and needs his own forever friend - could you be man enough for Scooby?

Update 11th September 2005

Scooby is still here and its over a year now since he came out of Ashton. He has changed in that time and is very affectionate, preferring a cuddle each time he is let out to exploring. He has had to be restricted somewhat now because one morning he decided to say hello to the postman and pushed his way through the hedge into the road.

The postie couldn't wait for me to get through the gate to catch Scooby so he took off in his van with Scooby in hot pursuit.  By the time he gave up they were specks in the distance with me a long way behind. He did come back to me but I had no lead and Scooby was not ready to come home quite yet so off he went again. Fortunately a neighbour was coming down the single track road and he blocked Scooby and we brought him back in the van.

I don't have time or energy for that kind of fun every morning so Scooby has to stay where he can't get at postie.........not that Scooby would do more than lick him to death but I just cant stand the excitement.

Scooby needs and deserves a special person, although we would be very shy of rehoming him out of our reach just in case he escapes or gets into bother.

I will get some more pics of him out on a walk soon.

Update by one of our volunteers Becks on July 5th 2006

I went up to Poplar farm Kennels to take some new pictures of Scooby and go out for a walk with him.
Well what can I say............he is one super dog who really deserves to be in a home. He has so much to offer that it's a real shame he has been in the kennels for so long.

Loves toys

So adorable

He is very good to walk on a lead - I actually thought he would pull like a train out of the kennel but he didn't . Considering he doesn't get much lead walking he was fantastic!!
Whilst off lead he kept looking back to check where we were and came back to us for treats  He really needs to get out for a good long off lead walk everyday - yes he gets exercised at PFK but he deserves so much more......
He is a stunning, solid lad with striking features and with lovely grey flecks around his mouth. Oh and not the smallest of tongues either

Scoobys regular exercise is free running in our paddock with another dog so he is usually very keen when he is off the property but as this first pic shows, he is happy to follow along and he would be much better given more outings.

In the paddock he will play ball all day but on this walk he soon tired of it in the heat of the afternoon and I wound up carrying the toy!!

Once we had turned for home he ran on ahead and dissappeared and we thought he had made his own way home but no. He must have lay down in the shade and we walked past him and when he emerged he ran back to where he had last seen us.....he was just a speck in the distance going the wrong way!!

Eventually he turned back and found us but he was pooped, enough for one day methinks.
