Success Stories

This section of the website is dedicated to all those wonderful people who have been able to give a forever home to one, or even two, of the dogs that we are dedicated to caring for.  You deserve our heartfelt thanks, without you there would be no successes to record. If you click on 2004 successes you will find photo's of some of the dogs we have rehomed this year.  The page is full of photo's so will take a while to load.

Some of the dogs are with us for quite a long time.  Their stories can therefore be quite lengthy, to make this page more 'user friendly' in each case we have just put their names.  Just click on the dogs name to read their individual stories.

If you are the new owner we would really love to hear from you, please let us know how you are doing and if possible send a picture to our webmaster by clicking here

2006

2006 was a bit of a sad year at PFK. We lost a number of our special long stay dogs to illness and/or old age so I would like to pay a brief tribute to Russ, Sian, Sky, Poppy, Emma, Cassie, Max and Rossi.

Despite the sad bits and our decision to try to reduce numbers and only take in the most desperate and often difficult cases, we still managed to rehomed 63 dogs and we also placed two dogs with breed rescue. Rachel managed to get some time off to have surgery on her finger but we will need to get the numbers down a bit further to get Dave off to hospital.

With the reduction in the number of dogs homed we have seen a reduction in income from adoption fees. Luckily, thanks to the generosity of a number of people, our income has been topped up by regular monthly sponsorship donations which go towards the care and upkeep of our long stay and permanent residents. Without these we would be unable to make ends meet and we are very grateful to all the people who contribute.

In 2006

  • We had a number of generous donations of dog food during the course of the year bringing our total spend on food down to £5642.55.

  • We spent almost £6,500 on vets bills, which was down from last year.

  • We only raised £20 from commission from people using our online shop, maybe we need to remind people about it.

  • In the calendar year our accounts show an overall loss of £850.82

2005

2005 was an eventful year for us all at Poplar Farm Kennels. We rehomed a total of 127 dogs during the year, including a couple of our long stay dogs. The most memorable one was Freddie who finally found a home after being with us for over a year. We also had some sad moments and lost 5 dogs last year due to old age or illness.

We are starting 2006 off with a number of long stay dogs still looking for homes and a larger number than ever on our sponsor list who will probably never be able to be rehomed. Hopefully as the year gets going we can find homes for many of the dogs here who have been waiting a while and no doubt many more over the course of the year. We could not do any of this without the help of our band of dedicated supporters and we would like to thank every one of them for their help in 2005 and hope they will continue to support us in 2006.

A few facts about 2005: -

  • We had several large donations of sacks of food but still spent over £5,000 on Dog food.

  • We spent almost £10,000 on vets bills, which was almost £1000 more than last year.

  • We raised nearly £200 from commission thanks to people using our online shop.

  • The total cost of our operation divided by 127 dogs gives an average cost of £175 per head to rehome

In 2004 we homed 150 dogs and in that year......
  • Only one elderly dog was euthanased following a broken femur & bone cancer
We lost three established puppies to natural causes.
  •  We spent about £5,000 on dog food, over £5,000 on transporting dogs from Ireland and £9,000 on vets bills.
  • No one received any wages.
  • The total cost of our operation divided by 150 dogs gives an average cost of £160 each to re-home.

Our thanks to everyone who helped put 150 dogs from death row into homes-  The PFK team and all the dogs.

In 2003 we homed 40 dogs.
This was before our web site was started.
